Bio

Vaishali was born in India and raised in New Jersey. She learned English as a Second Language, which contributed to her fascination with and love for languages, traveling, and diversity. Vaishali attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a Bachelors in International Studies and Economics. After college, she moved to New York City and worked for a nonprofit policy organization and think tank. While there, she led and supported Global Kids, an organization aimed at giving teenagers from diverse, socioeconomic backgrounds access to the knowledge and experience that would help them to succeed academically and participate in shaping public policy. The experience (among many others) sparked a desire to be directly involved in education and her decision to become a teacher. She received a Master of Science in Teaching from Pace University. As an educator, Vaishali enjoys engaging in the process of teaching and learning. For the past seven years, Vaishali has taught in New York City, Chicago, and Washington, DC. For the previous four years, Vaishali worked at an Expeditionary Learning school which instilled in her a passion for project based instruction as a way to develop student critical thinking and problem solving skills. When she’s not in teacher mode, Vaishali likes to unwind with friends and family, read good books, and cook scrumptious meals. She is excited to make a home in Raleigh and to be working with the 8th grade team at Exploris.
