Dear Parents,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! The 2014 cross country season is set to kick off at the beginning of the school year. I wanted to send out an email encouraging kids to begin running now to prepare for the 2014 season. Please take a look at the team updates listed below.
Team Goals
Exploris Cross Country provides a safe, cooperative, and competitive environment for students to develop as runners and participate in running as a team sport. In order to be successful as a team and as individuals, runners have the following goals:
- Train: In order to improve as a runner, you have to run. Being at practices and running with the team will help you improve. In addition to attending practices, you are expected to run on your own 1-2 times a week.
- Commit: Make cross country a priority in your life. In addition to training, eat well, get your rest, and stay hydrated.
- Compete: Work hard to improve yourself as a runner. This doesn’t necessarily mean winning races, but improving individual performances by pushing yourself at practices and meets.
- Enjoy: To make running part of your life, you need to see running as a generally pleasant experience. Hard work, a positive attitude, and supportive teammates and coaches will help you and everyone else on the team have fun.
Physicals
In order to participate in cross country, each athlete must turn in a copy of a doctor’s physical dated August 2013- August 2014. If your child has a physical this summer, keep a copy to turn in with his or her cross country forms. The standard physical form that your doctors office uses will be fine to turn in, no particular form is needed.
Team Schedule
Team practices will being on August 26th and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until October 9th.
August 26th – First practice
August 28th – Parent meeting 4:15pm
September 11th – 4:00pm Exploris Meet vs St Timothy’s at Walnut Creek Wetland Center

September 23rd – 4:00pm Meet (annual jamboree) at Wake Med Soccer Park

While I am periodically checking email over the summer, I will not be available to answer in-depth questions or concerns until the beginning of the school year. Additional Cross Country information will also be available at the beginning of the school year.
Happy Running!
