This program gives NC residents a way to recognize and reward the people who make our school run and impact the lives of students. Please vote for Ms. Leah.  She could win $10,000 for herself, and another $10,000 for The Exploris School! There will be a total of 10 winning NC School Heroes, and you can vote for *one* teacher *each day*.  The 10 winning heroes will be chosen from among the top 200 vote getters.

2. Joy of Soccer for Refugees- please sponsor!

NCFC17_Logo_Breakdown_740x420_large - Tammie Guyer (1)For the last 3 years Shannon’s 8th grade service learning group has worked to END RACISM. This year there are ten students that choose to do this by supporting refugees that have been recently resettled in Raleigh. Lutheran Services Carolinas are one of the ONLY non-profits approved to supervise their care in order to insure that no harm comes to these individuals. Exploris is beginning a partnership with the Refugee Outreach & Circle of Welcome Coordinator, Adrienne Morton.

One of the projects we have been asked to do is to find sponsors for 50 refugees to attend a North Carolina Football Club game. We are also hoping to find drivers to insure all of our guests have transportation to and from the game, and are safe while attending the game.

Soccer Game
Date: May 18th
Location: Cary Soccer Park
Time: 7pm
Event: North Carolina Football Club Game vs. Birmingham Legion
$15 per person = $10 tickets + $5 food vouchers for concession stand
A tent area to hang out, access to play areas for kids
Recognition on the field – options vary and we can discuss
Total cost for 50 refugees- $750

Please click here to sponsor a refugee!

japan5.  Exploris group has returned from Japan!

Exploris student Erin says, “Japan honestly changed my life and made me feel like a better person. It was such an amazing experience and trip to go on. I met and became friends with so many people that I hope to stay in contact with and I will never forget. I hope that one day I will see them again. This trip will be a life-long memory.”

6. We need YOU for the 2019-2020 PTO Board!

Think you can’t be a PTO Board Member?  We are a very supportive group with many different opinions and backgrounds.  Here are some stats on this year’s 8-member PTO Board:
  • 50% had never even been a part of a PTO/PTA before this year (At least 2 members had never even been to a PTO meeting!)
  • 50% work full-time outside of the home
  • 63% were “last minute” additions at the beginning of the school year – We’d love to start next year out ahead!
  • 25% have students in middle school
  • 63% of the board are planning on remaining, so we will have lots of experience to grow on!
We are in need of a President-Elect (to be PTO Pres 2020-21), Secretary, and VP of Buildings & Grounds.  If you have questions or are even a tiny bit interested, please reach out to Allie (allie.lindahl@gmail.com) or Kimberly (PTOPres@exploris.org).  We’d love to take you out for coffee (or beer 😉 )

7. Elementary Explorations help needed

Here’s a challenge:  Stop using non-recyclable K-cups. https://sustainableamerica.org/blog/5-ways-to-green-your-k-cup/

box-tops-logo10. Thanks for the Box Tops!

The recent Box Tops for Education submission was a success. We received $206.30 for the PTO.  Thanks to parent Gina Ross for coordinating our Box Tops submissions.  Each little boxtop that you clip and send in really does help out!  Please keep saving them.  The next Box Tops for Education submission will be in the fall.
