6. Middle School CAM Docent Applications now being accepted

Attention art-loving middle school students! Applications for SPRING CAM docents are now being accepted. Please see the attached application and read through the information below if you are interested. It is a wonderful program for all students!

camThrough an application process, approximately 16 Exploris students will be selected as museum docents for the upcoming SPRING exhibits. All interested students must apply for this incredible experience. Previous docents are eligible and encouraged to apply again, but priority will be given to new applicants.

The application can be accessed and printed here. Completed applications should be given to Shawna (sixth-grade teacher) by the end of the day on Tuesday, February 26th. Students will be notified of selection on Friday, March 1st.

Applicants must get parent permission and signature to participate. Additionally, applicants are making a commitment to attend all four docent trainings and all public tours. (see application for required dates)

The Middle School Student Docent Program is a school program for grades six through eight designed to equip students with the necessary skills to discover and connect with contemporary art and design. CAM Raleigh’s middle school docents will attend a series of after-school sessions with a museum educator. Weekly training sessions will use an inquiry-based approach to teach students the skills to decode and analyze works of art featured in the museum’s exhibitions. When training is complete docents use the same approach to engage museum visitors in conversations about the work on view. Besides extensive training in art appreciation, students will develop leadership, critical thinking, public speaking skills.
Contact Shawna Scipione sscipione@exploris.org with any questions.

8. Don’t Get Towed!

As you know Morgan Street Food Hall has attracted lots of people to the area around the Middle School. Our landlords have informed us that ACE towing will be monitoring parking at the MIDDLE SCHOOL campus. They will be towing any cars that do not have a hang tag. We wanted you to be aware of this so you don’t end up with a costly inconvenience.

9. Volunteer Needs – Silent Auction Donation Pickups

53255946-stock-vector-beautiful-young-mom-driving-pink-car-with-baby-on-back-seat-of-vehicleDonation Pickups – Many community groups and business have offered products or services for our Exploris PTO Silent Auction this Spring.  And WE need help picking up these products!  Most are paper certificates or small items that don’t take up much space.  The sign up will notate large items.

Please sign up for an item/location to pick up.  Let us know a date/time you could pick up so that we can pass it on to the donating group, as well as your phone number in case we have any questions.

Donations may be returned to either Elementary or Middle school front desks.
